A tub of Ben & Jerry’s is always that little bit sweeter when it’s shared.
This summer, we’d ‘spoon’ the following:
1. Aoibhinn O’Brien, FoodCloud
When it comes to ice-cream, our 2014 Join our Core winner Aoibhinn would make sure no pint of Ben & Jerry’s goes to waste. She is co-founder of FoodCloud, a super innovative virtual foodbank that connects businesses that have too much food with charities that have too little. Since launching in 2013, Food Cloud has facilitated the redistribution of 112 tonnes of food - that equates to a whopping 246,400 meals and emissions savings of 358,400kg of CO2!
2. Moninne Griffith, BeLonG To
Last year in the lead up to the Marriage Equality referendum we partnered up with YES Equality. The lovely Moninne was part of this team that helped love to win. Now with youth service group BeLonG To, Moninne continues her work to advocate for the LGBT community in Ireland. All about fair and equal action, Moninne would make sure you get a fair share of the tub!
3. Joe Caslin, Artist
We’re huge fans of Joe Caslin here at Ben & Jerry’s HQ. As well as being an inspirational artist, Joe’s day job as a secondary school teacher often influences his art. A famed example of this was his massive mural that appeared on George’s Street ahead of the marriage equality referendum. It ended up on the front page of the international New York Times. Pretty incredible stuff. Make sure you bring enough ice-cream to share with the whole class!
4. Peter O’Brien, Happenings
We love our friends over at the pop-up event community that is Happenings. When picking an ice-cream mate, choose wisely and consider their movie tastes. The Happenings folk are all cinema lovers like us and we’d enjoy nothing more than to break the ice over a movie under the stars with Petey!
5. Eamon Ryan, The Green Party
Eamon is the leader of the Green Party and an activist for positive solutions when it comes to climate justice. Ever the forward thinker, sharing a tub with Eamon would encourage lively political debate and forward thinking for the future. Be warned, if you get too distracted by conversation your ice-cream might melt and get ruined, just like our planet.
6. Peter Gaynor, Fairtrade Ireland.
Peter is an advocate of all things Fairtrade around the world. As director of Fairtrade Ireland, he’s all about ethical, Fairtrade ice-cream. It tastes even better when it means everyone is getting a sweeter share of the pie. Delish.
7. Panti Bliss, Activist
Share a tub with Rory O’Neill aka ‘Queen of Ireland’ Panti Bliss for some ‘straight’ talking conversation. Panti has been a leader for the LGBT community in Ireland for years now and certainly has some powerful tales to tell over some ice-cream scoops!
8. Aine O’Gorman, Trinity College Dublin Environmental Society
Ever the activist, Aine gets more done around her class schedule than most of us get done in a day... Her fingers are in many pots, but at present she is leading a divestment campaign throughout Trinity to benefit future students. She’s currently holding out for our dairy free flavour to reach Irish shores, so if you’re sharing a tub with her this summer you she’ll do the talking while you indulge!
