Happenings is a community organisation who animate public space with spontaneous, meaningful, cultural events. Happenings consists of small, energetic team of people who are passionate about putting on unique events in public spaces around Ireland. The crew take advantage of good weather and instant communication to gather hundreds of happy people together for special, sharable occasions at a moment’s notice.
Why do we love them?
1. Happenings have some simple and great philosophies, including:
Everything can be better than it is now.
People and planet matter way more than profit.
Create always.
Have fun.
Be nice.
2. They are fellow movie lovers
One of the best ways to enjoy a tub of your favourite ice cream is to get a spoon out while watching a great movie. We love all things cinema here at Ben & Jerry’s and it’s no secret that Happenings are fellow film-buffs too! Last year they hosted a variety of open air cinema events in Merrion Square and at various other locations around the country. Think classics like The Grand Budapest Hotel, Dirty Dancing and The Royal Tenenbaums... There’s sure to be plenty more movie screenings by the guys at Happenings to delight this summer, so get out and enjoy a scoop among friends under the stars!
3. They care about our climate
It’s all about spreading good vibes. The personal responsibility call to action spread at every Happenings live event is Leave No Trace. Each audience cleans up the event space by taking care of their own waste so that places are left as they were found. In 2015 we got together with Happenings and Stop Climate Chaos for a special premiere screening of Naomi Klein’s moving, climate focused documentary -‘This Changes Everything’, which spread the news of our combined dedication to the climate justice movement.
Join the fun!
On May 19th, they will be showing The Queen Of Ireland in Merrion Square as a nod to the anniversary of the marriage equality referendum.
Keep an eye out on the Happenings Facebook page and website for event announcements over the coming summer months
