The ongoing climate fight has taken its toll on this planet that we love. That’s why a year ago, Ben & Jerry’s partnered with the world’s leading online activist network, Avaaz, to help advance its mega, world-bettering petition for a 100% Clean World.
We asked for your help, and you responded in astounding numbers.
Since last February, you helped us add more than a quarter of a million names to the cause. And on November 29th, another esteemed signee joined the mix when UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon endorsed the petition at Paris’ Global Climate March, before delivering it to world leaders during his opening address at this year’s annual Conference of the Parties (COP21).
With that pen stroke, plus our 300K strong, we’ve taken pivotal steps toward achieving goals outlined in the Avaaz petition that call on national, local and international leaders to keep the global temperature rise below the dangerous level of 2°C by phasing out carbon pollution to zero.
The Climb to 300K.
To enact world change, the world must act together. Powered by 40 million members in 194 countries, Avaaz gives global citizens the ability to speak up. And recognising the need to stop global warming before it’s too late, Ben & Jerry’s has been busy —rallying everyone we know to sign the Avaaz petition for 100% renewable energy by 2050.
More than 300,000 signatures later, we couldn’t have made it here without you. Outreach efforts included penning dozens of blog articles on climate change, keeping you plugged into current climate news and Ben & Jerry’s commitments to the planet. Each piece had a clear call to action: Sign the petition. Join us. And together, let’s quit using fossil fuels forever.
Around the globe, the climb to 300K continued with a mountain of events; from concerts and festival circuits to free cone days and regular city stops in our smile generating—and signature collecting—scoop truck.
It’s been a successful, fun set of events. And with pa mountain of signatures to show for it, we’re ready to see what happens at COP21 in Paris. Stay tuned for more opportunities to get involved and make your voice heard!
